What is Disodium EDTA or Disodium EDTA?

Disodium EDTA is a disodium salt of edetate. Its full name is disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate. It is available as a colorless white powder. Regarding the chemical structure, it is a large molecule, which helps to stabilize other products.

Uses & Benefits

Disodium EDTA is well known for its chelation power, which binds heavy metal ions to itself and does not allow them to interact with the product and make it inapplicable. It also offers protection against rancidity and the effect of hard water salt. It is used in shower or bath products, sun care, body care, facial care products. It is also used in baby care products as it is not reactive or harmful to children. It also protects against hue change caused by heavy metal ions; therefore, it also acts as a color protector.

SOLUBILITY:
Soluble in water (10.8g/100ml of water at 202C). Practically insoluble in ether and ethanol 962.

Disodium EDTA is frequently found in the ingredient lists of personal care products, processed foods and beverages, cleaning products, cosmetics, and skin care products.

Disodium EDTA also has numerous industrial, medical and engineering applications and is one of the most important and widely used chemical compounds in modern human society.

Disodium EDTA has the chemical formula of [CH2N (CH2CO2H) 2] 2, the molecular formula of C10H16N2O8,

It is an important chelating agent that spreads out of all its applications. It has a high affinity for free metal ions, a common contaminant and impurity in many chemical environments.

As an example, when we clean something with soap or wash our clothes, there is a chemical reaction between the detergent, the organic soil, and the water that provides an aqueous solution environment for the "cleaning" chemical reaction to occur.

However, many impurities and free metal and mineral ions in tap water make the performance of detergents less effective and inconsistent in different geographical areas with varying water quality.

Disodium EDTA as a chelating agent helps bind free radicals and impurities, allowing major detergent ingredients to work efficiently and consistently, without excessive "chemical disruption".

In other words, the edta softens the water and makes the soaps more effective and lathering.

* Chelating agent: dose of 0.005 - 0.1%

• in most formulations of shampoos, liquid soaps and skin cleansers it varies between 0.25% and 1.5%,

* in fragrances: 0.05-2.00%
* emulsified cosmetic creams: 0.2-1.2%
• toilet soaps: 0.2-1.0%
