Description: Under the name Magnesium stearate we find a mixture composed mainly of stearate and magnesium palmitate.
Physical-Chemical Data: Light powder very fine, white, fatty to the touch. Practically insoluble in water and anhydrous ethanol. Melting point: 88.5 ºC (pure), 117 -150 ºC in commercial products).
Properties and uses: It is an agent used as a drying powder for skin problems, used as an excipient in the preparation of cosmetics, giving body to the creams and also acting as a mechanical barrier against chemical irritants.
It is used sprinkling around the fistulas to prevent excoriations.
It is also used as a lubricant in the manufacture of tablets and excipients for the filling of capsules.
Dosage: Topical use, at 0.25 - 10%.
Precautions: Inhalation of dust should be avoided.
Incompatibilities: Strong acids, alkalis, iron salts, oxidizing agents, acetylsalicylic acid, vitamins, and alkaloid salts.
Observations: The absorption of some active principles may decrease, so it should not be used in too high proportions.
Conservation: In tightly closed containers. PROTECT FROM THE LIGHT.
