Properties and uses:
Ubidecarenone is a coenzyme that is naturally in the respiratory chain, which is related to electron transport in the mitochondria, and possibly also involved in the metabolism of heart muscle. It is believed that makes a free radical scavenging action, an antioxidant and stabilizer developing action of the properties of membranes.

Topically it is used for its antioxidant properties (free radical scavenger) mainly in formulations to prevent aging and damage caused by solar radiation on the skin. Its antioxidant effectiveness seems superior to other molecules such as vitamin E. Topical application of ubidecarenone antieritematógeno produces a powerful effect than indomethacin, which is considered capable of reducing free radical formation.

It is also important to note that possesses the ability to inhibit the enzymatic activity of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), which is the ability to curb excessive keratinocyte proliferation which occurs as a result of solar battery and causes an unsightly hyperkeratosis .
