Solubility: Practically insoluble in water, very soluble in 96% ethanol, and light oil,
easily soluble in fatty oils, and liquid paraffin, very little soluble in glycerol. Melting point: 41 - 44 ºC. Optical rotation: -50º (c = 10, ethanol).

Dosage:
- Topical route at 0.1 - 2% in dermatitis and eczema associated with pruritus, insect bites, etc ...;
up to 10% in contusions, sprains, sprains, rheumatic pains, neuralgia, etc ...; and until the
16% as an irritant for alopecia areata treatment. It has also been used in oily solutions
20 - 40%.
-Inventory route in solutions for inhalations or sprays up to 10%. -In preparations
orally, at 0.003% in suspensions, at 0.005 - 0.015% in syrups, and at 0.2 - 0.4% in
tablets
-In topical cosmetic products, 0.1 - 2.0%.

Side effects: Menthol can cause hypersensitivity reactions, including contact dermatitis. Apnea and instantaneous collapse have also been observed in children after application on the nostrils. Ingestion of menthol causes severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, vertigo, ataxia, drowsiness, and coma.

Contraindications: Children under 2 years old. Application on open wounds and mucous membranes.

Precautions: It is dangerous to apply ointments containing menthol in the nostrils of children, it can cause immediate collapse; nasal drops that contain menthol can cause the same effect.

 Incompatibilities: Oxidizing agents (potassium permanganate, chromium trioxide ...).

Remarks: Produces a liquid or paste mixture (eutectic mixtures) crushed with camphor, phenol, phenacetin, chloral hydrate, betanaphthol, resorcinol, thymol, pyrogallol, pyrocatechol, and ethyl carbonate.

Conservation: In tightly closed containers. PROTECT FROM THE LIGHT.
